Blogger Recognition Award

I am delighted, humbled, honored, and grateful to be nominated by the incredible Laura of All The Shoes I Wear.  If you aren’t familiar with her blog, please go check it out.  There’s a little bit of everything for everybody…hence “All the Shoes she wears”.  I admit I had hoped, when I first saw the name of her blog, that she had a shoe collection rivaling that of Imelda Marcos and we would get an insiders view each post.  What she has really done is so much better!

How I got Started

I’ve told this story before, so I’ll try to tell it a little differently this time to keep it interesting.  I started this blog because I’m lazy!  Yes.  LAZY.   How can anyone be lazy if they are writing a blog and keeping it up with any kind of regularity, you ask?  Well, for years, through the bad divorce and then the second divorce and then finding myself dating again approaching 40, and then venturing into online dating…..my friends have suggested I write a book.  I admit I am pretty sure I have ADD to some degree which shuts me down every time I think of writing a book.  I mean, where do I start?  At the beginning?  Then isn’t it an autobiography?  Who cares about my autobiography?  Do I focus just on bad husbands and boyfriends?  Then doesn’t it seem very pessimistic?  Do I include the motivational stories that got me where I am?  Then doesn’t that take away from the dating aspect?  See where I am going?  It was just a daunting task that could never get started.  Then one day a friend, again, suggested I write a book.  I told her my reasons why I just could not.  She suggested a blog.  I had never really read blogs or done any research into a blog.  However, because it is similar to my story telling anyway, I thought I would give it a go.  Luckily I found WordPress for this venture.  The support I receive from my WordPress friends is beyond amazing!  My little blog hasn’t gained hundreds of followers…yet.  Well I did break the 200 mark, so I guess technically that qualifies as hundreds because it’s more than one.  I’m slow and steady.  My hope is that if I can make someone laugh, or think “I’ve been there”, or if I give just a bit of encouragement that good things can happen, then it is all worth it!

Two Pieces of Advice

  1. Stay true to who you are.  You will see a lot of blogging advice.  You will doubt that you are doing things the right way.  You will think about changing the way you do your blog.  It’s good to read the advice, consider the reasons why or why not, and then ask yourself….if you change, is it still reflective of you?  Try new things if it doesn’t take away from who you are.
  2. Don’t compare numbers.  Some of my blogging friends have gained exponentially more followers than me in a shorter time.  However, these same friends write exponentially more posts than me too.  Figure out what works with your life and your schedule and try to be consistent.

  1. Hello KK,
What a funny coincidence that I receive this honor from you as I am right at the moment following up on your last Chums nomination and a few other ones, which I should have done a long time ago. But you know, life got in the way! Thank you for your patience and support. I hope everything is going well for you Sis. xoxo

    1. Life is kinda like that, it tends to get in the way. But the good thing about friends is that the connection is there and when life gives you a couple minutes we just pick up where we left off. Girlfriend, there’s no obligation to do anything…just know I want your blog to be recognized for being awesome just like you! XOXO
